About Marian
Located on a 40-acre campus, Marian is an all-girls, college-preparatory high school founded in 1955. With an average enrollment of 650 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15:1, Marian has what researchers identify as an optimum size (600-900), providing stronger student achievement, higher student participation and a richer curriculum. Everything on campus—classes, college planning, athletics, clubs and activities—is focused on the needs of girls.
As a leader in women’s education, Marian continues to set the standard of excellence and has been recognized three times as a U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Furtermore, the math department has been recognized as one of the top three Blue Ribbon programs by the U.S. Department of Education and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Community
Marian will place international students with local families, where they will have extended opportunities to practice and improve their English as they learn about American life and culture. Girls will find a safe, welcoming and supportive community at Marian. A dedicated faculty supports the values and expectations that parents have set for their daughters.
In addition to academic programs, Marian provides over 50 clubs and activities, which allow students to pursue a variety of interests, master new skills and make lifelong friends. Marian girls are champions in athletics, journalism, speech, music and student government.
Academics
Marian offers the most comprehensive academic and extracurricular programs to ensure the development of the whole person. In addition to a completely college-prep curriculum, students have access to 44 honors courses, 20 dual enrollment courses and 18 AP courses. College preparation begins freshman year, so that students can feel confident in their academic progress and in the college planning process. To further support international students, Marian’s Mandarin teacher will serve as a tutor to Chinese students. Each year 100% of Marian graduates continue their education, attending such schools as Boston College, Duke, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford, University of Michigan, University of Notre Dame and University of Virginia.
All-Girls Advantage
Research supports the benefits of all-girls schools. According to a review of studies by the U.S. Department of Education (2005), in single-sex schools, girls:
- Score higher on achievement tests
- Choose more challenging courses
- Have higher educational and career aspirations
- Are more likely to pursue a career in the fields of math, science or computers
What’s more, the friendships and sisterhood formed at Marian will last a lifetime.
