Science

Marian’s science curriculum features a coursework progression including biology, chemistry and physics, along with a variety of elective science courses.  Each of these courses is laboratory-based, allowing the students to have a hands-on, minds-on experience.

STEM exposure and practice is a key priority within our department. Our curriculum aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards.

Objectives

The objectives of the Marian science department are to:

  1. Foster a love of science and scientific inquiry, recognizing that students learn best when they take an active part in their learning.
  2. Educate all students in the fundamental principles and concepts of science, such as the scientific method, the laws of physics, and the properties of matter.
  3. Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as the student’s ability to analyze and interpret data.
  4. Prepare our students for future academic and professional pursuits in science-related fields, including research, engineering, and medicine.
  5. Cultivate an appreciation for the natural world and the role of science in shaping our understanding of it, as well as promote scientific literacy among the general population.

Requirements

Students are required to take six semesters of science classes.
