Show choir, which has been offered at Marian since 2015, combines dancing and singing in a 15-minute performance around a central theme. This year’s theme, “For Such a Time as This,” told the story of Queen Esther. Her courage, wisdom and faith in God lead to the triumph of her people and the downfall of their enemies.
Directed by Mrs. Michelle Delisi and Ms. Mary Bruegman, Queen Esther’s story is one of passion and devotion. It’s a story of a woman who stands up for herself. She did this through her faith and relationship with God. Because of depth of the theme, this season went differently.
“It presented early challenges. Ms. Bruegman did a lot of educating on who Queen Esther was. It helped the girls connect with the theme and then the more we performed it, the more we talked about it,” Delisi said.
The girls had a successful season. Some highlights include their performance at Wahoo Court of Champions, where their performance earned them third place overall and first in the Treble/Women’s Division.
At the same competition, senior Isa Valencia Valbuena was awarded Top Female Soloist for her solo covering the song “Rise” by Katy Perry. For Valencia Valbuena, it was one of the best seasons she'd had in her four years of show choir. “We wouldn’t win every single competition, but with our choreography and our vocal skills, we grew,” she said.
Concerning her solo, Valencia Valbuena said, “I was really happy, and it just showed me why I put so much dedication into show choir because you see those fruits when you receive those prizes.”
Although this rewarding season has come to an end, Momentum looking to the future and scouting for more talent. Tryouts for next year’s show choir begin on May 8. Tryout details can be found here.
