Omaha Marian is proud to announce that senior Maeve Wharton '26 has been selected as a semifinalist for the 2026 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, one of the nation's most prestigious honors for graduating high school seniors.

Maeve is among just 627 students nationwide who have advanced to the final round of consideration for the program. Final selections will be made in the coming months, with the 2026 U.S. Presidential Scholars to be announced by the U.S. Secretary of Education, Linda McMahon.

Established in 1964 by executive order of the President, the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was created to recognize and honor some of the nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. The program initially recognized academic achievement and has since expanded to honor excellence in the arts and career and technical education fields.

Each year, more than 5,000 candidates are considered based on exceptional academic performance, including outstanding SAT or ACT scores. Ultimately, up to 161 students nationwide are named U.S. Presidential Scholars.

Being selected as a semifinalist is a significant accomplishment and places Maeve among an elite group of students recognized for their academic excellence and potential. The honor reflects not only her dedication to learning but also her commitment to achieving at the highest level.

Regardless of the final outcome, advancing to the semifinalist stage is an extraordinary achievement in this highly selective national program. We are incredibly proud of Maeve and this recognition is a testament to her hard work. Congratulations, Maeve!
