Marian is proud to announce Ashley Straub and Audrey Laney as valedictorians and Julia King and Mary Watson as salutatorians for the Class of 2019.
On March 29, Principal Susie Sullivan announced the names of the students, and the tie for both valedictorians and salutatorians and shocked the students and faculty. “I am overjoyed to be honored with valedictorian, and I am so happy that I get to share it with Audrey!” Straub said. Aside from having outstanding academic records, all four excelled in other activities and extracurriculars.
Straub played varsity volleyball, was a staff member on Burn Magazine, held leadership positions in Campus Ministry and was the club president of three clubs: Math, Art and Coffee.
Laney was on Marian Students for Life Core Team, active in Campus Ministry, SAME, Operation Others and other Marian Clubs.
King played varsity tennis, was active in Campus Ministry and participated in Latin and Math clubs.
Watson performed in five plays/musicals throughout her time at Marian and was a part of the Select Women’s Choir.
The four students worked hard in the classroom, in extracurriculars and outside of school. The students exemplified a work ethic that goes beyond the average student. “I am extremely honored to have received this title given what a talented class I am a part of and Marian’s academic reputation,” King said. “It gives me confidence to know that I will be able to handle the challenges that lie ahead in the next chapter of my life.”
Each one of the accomplished students had the opportunity to speak at graduation events. The valedictorians shared the microphone on May 19 at graduation. The salutatorians spoke at Honors Day on May 14.
