Clubs 

Whether a girl enjoys the Wizarding World of the Harry Potter Club or dreams of a career in government by participating in clubs such as Harvard Model Congress or Student Board or wants to express herself in song as a member of the Worship Choir, there is something for everyone at Marian.

With over 30 clubs, getting involved at Marian encourages students to learn to balance extracurricular commitments with their academics. Girls become comfortable with who they are by forming camaraderie with students, who share similar interests.  Marian girls don’t feel the pressure to conform to general stereotypes of who society thinks they should be.

 

Student Government

Student government at Marian is an excellent leadership opportunity.  Elections for government positions are held each spring. 

Student Board
The elected Board members strive to unify students and faculty by improving all means of communication.  The students work to unify the entire school in its activities and programs.  All clubs are directly accountable to the Student Council Board and chartered by the Student Council Board. 

Class Officers
A group of students is elected within classes to serve the needs of each class.  Membership will vary according to class enrollment.  Officers are responsible for class activities, meetings, and any other class project.  They strive to encourage unity in the class.

 

Art Club
The Art Club is open to students interested in art.  Members will participate in field trips and create a group art project.

Big Sister/Little Sister Program
Marian’s Big Sisters are junior students who help the freshmen (Little Sisters) become acclimated to the Marian experience.  The Big Sisters host a series of events with their Little Sisters each year.  Juniors who are energetic, responsible and welcoming are encouraged to join.




Bowling Club

The Marian High School Bowling Team competes in the Metro High School Bowling Association’s Monday League.

Campus Ministry
The Campus Ministry Program consists of student leaders from all groups involved in planning retreats, prayer experiences, liturgies, opportunities for sacraments and service projects.

Cheerleaders

Marian has a varsity cheerleading squad that perform at all home and away basketball and volleyball games. This team of girls pledge their time and support to the athletic programs at Marian.  In addition to attending games, the cheerleaders design posters, make announcements and spark spirit for the athletic teams.  Tryouts are held each spring for cheerleading and any student may audition, including incoming freshman.

Computers for Africa (CFA)
Marian students participate in refurbishing computers and preparing them for shipment to underprivileged areas of Africa.

Crusavers
Crusavers is a group for students who have made the decision to stay free of drugs and alcohol.  Students involved create educational and fun activities that promote a healthy lifestyle.

Dance Teams
The Dance Teams work together to build school spirit and support the athletic programs at Marian.  There are two teams at Marian, junior varsity and varsity.  The teams consists of girls who are outgoing and creative.  They perform at numerous events throughout the year including home basketball games, Creighton Prep’s homecoming game, pep rallies and Creighton University basketball games.



Directors Club

Students will have the opportunity to create short original movies.

Esprit De Corps
The mission of the Esprit De Corps Club is raise awareness and appreciation for Marian’s six Core Values—community, service, empowerment, compassion, leadership and Marian Identity—through education and celebration.  Esprit de Corps, is French for “spirit of the body [community].”

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)

This club invites athletes to come together to share their athletic experiences and to encourage them in their Christian development.

French Club
The French Club promotes a greater awareness and understanding of the language, literatures and cultures of the French-speaking world.

Harvard Model Congress
The team prepares to participate and compete in Harvard University’s Model Congress each February.  The Congress is a carefully designed, hands-on simulation of all three branches of the American government.  It strives to inspire high school students to participate in civic life by creating a dynamic learning environment.

IDEAS– Increasing Diversity and Equality Among Students
IDEAS educates the student body about various cultures and creates an environment open to diversity, dignity and respect for all people.

Liturgical Music Group
Seraphims, a choir open to all students and staff, leads the Marian community in song at each all-school mass and prayer service.  Local musicians, Cher & Gene Klosner direct the group.  This activity offers an opportunity to experience the fun and blessings of the gospel music. 

Mock Trail
Mock Trial is sponsored by the America Bar Association.  It allows students to take on the roles of attorneys and witnesses to argue an actual case before a panel of attorneys who act as judges.

Native Ecosystem
The Native Ecosystem fosters the development of land into a more natural habitat while providing an understanding of ecosystems. 

Pantomime Troupe
Pantomime is action without words.  The Troupe consists of members from all classes who create both serious and humorous mimes.  The Troupe performs for schools, banquets and organizations. 

Peer Helpers
Peer Helpers assist all students, especially freshmen, in feeling comfortable and accepted at Marian.  They reach out to all students in need.

Prom Committee
This committee plans, organizes and decorates for Prom.

Recruitment Team
Marian’s Recruitment Team is responsible for promoting Marian High School.  The organization’s activities include grade school visitations, Open House, Home Coffees, Placement Exam and 6th & 7th Grade Exam and Workshop.  Team members act as hostesses and guides to prospective students spending a day at Marian.





Science Club

The science is open to students interested in scientific investigation both in the lab and in the field.  The overall goal of this club is to prepare science projects for competition.

Society of American Military Engineers(S.A.M.E.)
The program is designed to stimulate interest and excitement in students with an interest in architecture, engineering and other science-related fields.  Students participate in a “real world” project facilitated by professionals who are employed in the field.  The competition process is designed to provide the students with an experience in a comprehensive engineering project.

Spanish Club
The Spanish Club is founded to promote a greater awareness and understanding of the language, literatures and culture of the Spanish-speaking world.

Speech Team
The Speech Team is an organization of speakers whose members participate in tournament competition in Nebraska.  Individuals that qualify may attend the National Tournament held during the summer.  Students who compete on the speech team are enrolled in Speech class through the English Department curriculum.

Spirit Club
Through “spirit” and their love of Marian, the Spirit Club strives to make Marian a positive place in all areas.

Trap Shooting Club
Focusing on gun safety and education, Marian’s trap shooting team competes at local and national competitions.  Click here for the student-sponsored website.
 
Young Democrats
This organization is available to any student who has a keen interest in discussing political issues and who may be supportive of the Democratic party.

Young Republicans
This organization is available to any student who has a keen interest in discussing political issues and who may be supportive of the Republican party.

 

Honor Societies

Marian's Honor Societies are scholastic clubs for students who maintain a high grade point average in a respective subject. 

National Honors Society (NHS)
Selection for membership is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership and service.

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)
The FBLA grants students the opportunity to get involved with the business world through experiences involving field trips, speakers, state, regional and national conferences and community service projects.

Junior Classical League (JCL)
The JCL is a national organization and is the junior branch of the American Classical League.  Any student who has successfully completed two years of Latin is eligible for membership. 

Mu Alpha Theta
Mu Alpha Theta fosters an interest in mathematics and a continuation or development for individuals in the area of mathematics.  To become a member, students must complete through Advanced Algebra with a cumulative math GPA of 3.5.

National English Honor Society
Marian’s Marcella Chapter, named in honor of Sr. Marcella Sitzmann, a Servant of Mary, an English teacher, and the first principal of Marian, consists of juniors and seniors who have held a 4.0 GPA in five semesters of required English courses.  Marian has the only national chapter in the state of Nebraska.


National Forensic League
The National Forensic League recognizes excellence in the areas of public speaking and oral interpretation.  Membership is earned through participation in speech competitions held throughout the year.

National French & Spanish Honor Societies
The French and Spanish Honor Societies are organizations that recognize outstanding academic achievement in French and Spanish.  Second year students must have an "A" average in French or Spanish and a "B" average in all other classes to be eligible for membership.

Quill & Scroll
This international honorary society for high school journalists was chartered in 1958 at Marian.  It recognizes members of the journalism program who meet the standards set by the organization.
