Athletics
Parent Consent/Sports Screening Form for 2009-2010 school year.

Marian’s Athletic Program is an integral component of the student athlete’s overall experience at Marian.  While the immediate objective of the athletic competition is to win; our challenge as educators and coaches is to prepare students for winning and losing gracefully with the full understanding of the broader purpose of sports: which is to develop a balanced Christian woman.   The values of teamwork, leadership, work ethic, respect, accountability, perseverance and self-control are among the many Christian values the Athletic Department staff strives to instill in Marian’s students athletes.

The opportunities for personal growth and achievement are abundant in the athletic arena. The athletic department goal is to not only provide a wide variety of athletic experiences, but also to help each young woman and each team to have opportunities to reach a high level of success defined by progress and winning.

Membership on an athletic team is a privilege and not a right; high standards are set for the Marian athlete. Student athletes will be given the opportunities to develop their self management and leadership skills, self esteem, cooperation and team work, personal values, coping skills, sportsmanship and physical fitness while being instructed and motivated to strive for excellence in sport.

Through cooperation and teamwork, an athlete learns that weakness is compensated by strength and that success is sometimes achieved only after experiencing failure.

Marian's athletic program consists of nine Class A state-sanctioned sports: volleyball, cross country, softball, golf, basketball, soccer, track, tennis and swimming and diving.  Within all nine sports we have a total of 24 teams.  More than 40 percent of Marian girls participate in one or more of the athletic teams.  Marian’s varsity sports teams have claimed 20 state titles in the last five years, including five back-to-back golf titles and a 2009 perfect score in tennis, the first in Nebraska history.

  • History in the Making
Marian’s 2009 Tennis Team, won the Class A State Championship for the second year in a row.  But that is not all!  For the first time in the history of Class A high school tennis, the Team swept all state titles.  Sophomore Brooke Urzendowski won No. 1 singles; freshman Jessie Koraleski claimed the No. 2 singles title, seniors Anna Kirshenbaum and Kathy Schuele won No. 1 doubles; and sophomores Caroline Nelsen and Kara Schuele took the No. 2 doubles title.  As a result, the 101st session of the Nebraska State Legislature entered into record Legislative Resolution 260, stating Marian as the first team to claim a perfect score in tennis. This record now holds a permanent spot in history.
