Parent Newsletter Athletic Physicals Marian will offer physicals for students who are interested in our athletic program on Sunday, August 9 from 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. Cost is $10.00. Summer Softball Conditioning/Clinic Marian is hosting a summer Softball Conditioning Clinic from July 14 - 24. Click Here for more information. History in the Making Congratulations to Marian’s 2009 Tennis Team, who won the Class A State Championship for the second year in a row. But that is not all! For the first time in the history of Class A high school tennis, the Team swept all state titles. Sophomore Brooke Urzendowski won No. 1 singles; freshman Jessie Koraleski claimed the No. 2 singles title, seniors Anna Kirshenbaum and Kathy Schuele won No. 1 doubles; and sophomores Caroline Nelson and Kara Schuele took the No. 2 doubles title. As a result, the 101st session of the Nebraska State Legislature entered into record , stating Marian is the first team to claim a perfect score in tennis. This record now holds a permanent spot in history.
Girls State Governor Congratulations to Noelle Mapes ’10, who was elected Governor by her peers at the American Legion Auxiliary Nebraska Girls State Convention. More than 420 young women represented their high schools at the convention. Each citizen at Girls State runs for office, either at the city, county or state level. Noelle’s campaign for governor secured her the primary election win, where she then debated with the other candidate at a debate prior to the general election. Noelle’s inauguration was held in the State Capitol Rotunda,where she gave an inauguration speech. Afterward, she met with Gov. Heineman in his office at the State Capitol. Girls State is a nonpartisan program that teaches young women responsible citizenship and love for God and Country.
Journalism Award Congratulations to Marian’s Network Newspaper Photo Editor, Kristyn Kocsis ‘09 who is the National Federation Press Women Foundation, national First Place winner in Sports Photography for her photo “Miracle Catch” (pictured at right). This contest is the only nationwide communications competition for high school students. The contest is endorsed by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
