On Monday, July 12, Lexus of Omaha hosted the 15th annual Champions for Marian Golf Tournament at Indian Creek Golf Course. The tournament is a benefit for Marian and is part of the Lexus Champions for Charity, a unique series of 200 charity golf tournaments throughout the United States. In attendance at this year’s tournament was women’s professional golfer Janice Moodie. Janice claimed three top-ten finishes in her rookie year with the LPGA in 1997. She has also enjoyed a successful professional career, earning two career victories, playing on many victorious Solheim Cup and World Cup teams and earning nearly $3.5 million in Official Career Earnings.
A total of 132 golfers participated in the annual event that proved to be a great day for golf.
The event culminated with a dinner, sponsored by Mickey Anderson and Angie Anderson Quinn ‘87, brief program and oral auction. John Cavanaugh, friend of Marian, made the highest bid in the tournament auction. With his winning bid, Cavanaugh and a guest will attend the 2010 Lexus Champions for Charity National Championship at Pebble Beach Golf Links, The Links at Spanish Bay and the Spyglass Hill Golf Course in Pebble Beach California in December. This is Cavanaugh’s second trip to this charity event.
Since 1996 Marian has maintained a consecutive partnership with Lexus of Omaha, the official sponsor of the Champions for Marian Golf Tournament, which has grossed more than $750,000 for Marian. The tournament inception was due to the late Tal Anderson, who sponsored the event for 14 years. Now his son Mickey Anderson and daughter Angie Quinn are carrying on his legacy. Tom O’Brien and Bob Rossiter, current Marian parents, co-chaired the tournament. Other tournament committee members included John Berigan, Dan Dudley, Jim Frost, Dave Hershiser, Keith Powell, Mark Weber and Mike Zabawa.
